As a local resident I have become increasingly aware of inappropriate development of green space in our area over the past years. This is an issue that affects everyone. One of the key reasons people choose to live in this area - our green spaces - is under savage threat.
Residents feel helpless as their concerns are overlooked and Garden after Garden is lost to new developements. The problem is that Gardens have no real protection. Instead of being cherished as sanctuaries for our children and havens for wildlife, not to mention the sheer pleasure they bring to communities, they have the status of neglected industrial wasteland.
We need to change this nationally. I have decided to do all I can to help ensure Gardens are reclassified by Government as "greenfield sites", as the national Conservative Party is already committed to doing.
But we also need to act locally. Instead of meekly accepting centrally imposed housing targets, it's time for the local Council to put up a fight.
I will try to pursuade them, but I need your support. We can and must make it impossible for the Lib Dem Council to continue its policy of allowing inappropriate, over-the-top development of our Boroughs.
The only way that will happen is if we let the Lib Dem Councillors know the full scale of local support for the protection of our green spaces. Please use this website as a tool in your fight against inappropriate development and please sign the petition above.
