Richmond Council approves planning application

July 17th, 2009

During last nights meeting with Zac Goldsmith residents spoke out in favour of a petition to be signed by all those affected and presented to Richmond Borough Council. Today we drafted, printed and distributed the petition and already collected many signatures.

This recent planning application for back land development is yet another example for the continuous threat to our Borough's gardens and green spaces. Residents have contacted us to support their effort to stop developers building additional 6 houses on a garden located on the back of and between their gardens.

We have organised a meeting with our parliamentary candidate Zac Goldsmith for July 16th at 7pm at the office in East Sheen, 372 Upper Richmond Road West, SW14 7JU. Please come along!

Here is his letter to the residents:

Dear Residents,

As your parliamentary candidate for Richmond Park I am appalled at yet another attempt by greedy developers to impose infrastructural, ecological and social damage on our Borough. The relentless building on gardens and the increasing density levels in our Borough now threaten the very qualities that make Richmond special.

Back land development as well as the building on green spaces and gardens has been steadily increasing over the past years. This has been supported by the current Lib Dem Council as housing targets become priority over residents concerns. We have recently lost a 400-year old garden in the historic part of Richmond on Old Palace Lane and gardens on Marchmont Road as well as many others where residents have voiced strong opposition but have been ignored.

I have been contacted by both by the developer and local residents regarding the proposed development for Graemsdyke Cottage. In my campaign for a sustainable future of this Borough I would like to hear your concerns and support you in your fight to preserve the quality of life in our Borough.

In the meantime please take a look at the following website: www.protectourgreenspaces.com and perhaps you will find some useful information.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Kind regards

Zac Goldsmith
